| What is freeze drying? Freeze drying is a method of preservation that removes liquid from a frozen object by a slow vacuum process. The freeze drying continues until all of the moisture is evaporated. Once this is completed, your pet will last forever. Many people put in their wills that the pet is to be buried with them. Why would I choose freeze drying over traditional taxidermy? Taxidermy cannot meet the needs of pet preservation, since it uses generic forms based on animal type and size. Therefore, most taxidermists simply won't work on your pet since it is impossible to make your pet look like your pet. A few taxidermists can do custom forms, but because it can take more than a year to do this type of work, they can only accept a limited number of pets. Also, due to the cost of custom forms, some will only do small pets. How long does it take? Usually, four to six months. Depending on the individual pet. We will never rush a pet to make room for another. The final outcome of your pet is our most important consideration. This is how your beloved pet will look forever. What types of pets can you do this for? We can work with all types of pets, and welcome your inquiries. What happens if I don't live nearby? We are located in Colorado and work with people and their pets from all over the US. We will give you our exact address over the phone. It is not listed on our website to protect the privacy of our clients. We can discuss shipping methods while you prepare to send your pet to us. Fed Ex is our preferred method for shipping. We can give you their contact information when you are ready to ship. What should I do, after my pet passes away, and before I send him/her to you? It is very important that your pet be frozen immediately. (Within 8 hours) Please speak to your vet or pet caretaker about this. They can usually do this for you, or suggest someone who can. I have been told this is very expensive. Compared to the cost of traditional taxidermy, the freeze drying method costs less. The exact price will be based on the weight, size and type of your pet. We can usually accommodate a pet up to 180lbs. I know that to many people, the expense is a consideration. We have recently started allowing people to prepay the cost of freeze drying. We have worked it out to accept four monthly installments on our prepayment plan. This will reserve space for your pet along with locking in our current pricing. What position will you put my pet in? We request that you send a photo of your pet when you send them to us. You may also include any description that you think may be helpful to ensure that things are done exactly as you wish. |
